TRG-AMR TARGETS TWO TUSCC TITLES

TRG-AMR leads two Tudor United Sports Car Championship titles
  • It will be the first major USA championship win for the marque
  • Nielsen set to become the first female to win a major North American championship
  • 29 September, Gaydon: TRG-AMR, the North American partner team of Aston Martin Racing, is targeting two Tudor United Sports Car Championship (TUSCC) titles this weekend (2/3 October) at the world famous Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta.
Leading the GTD class championship, the team from Northern California will race its #007 V12 Vantage GT3 in the 10-hour long race with drivers Kuno Wittmer (US) and team-mate Christina Nielsen (DN), who is not only set to become the first Aston Martin champion in the USA but also the first female.

Nielsen, from Hørsholm in Denmark, has had a fantastic season in North Americas largest sportscar championship. The 23-year old star has scored podiums at Detroit GP, Lime Rock, Road America and Virginia International Raceway but the competition has been tough.

We are heading into the final race with only a one point advantage over our competitors so now the pressure is on us to finish ahead of the Ferrari and Audi and close out this championship, said Nielsen. As drivers, this is what we dream of - a chance to win a championship in the last race of the season when everything is on the line.

Its exciting and a little nerve-wracking all at the same time. When I started with the team back in Daytona, I never believed we would be going into the last race in this position. The entire team has done such an amazing job to get us here and now we have to deliver.”
TRG-AMR has been Aston Martin Racings partner team since the start of 2013 and, if successful this weekend, will be responsible for taking Aston Martins first major North American championship win.

The biggest thanks goes out to this most amazing brand, Aston Martin, and the fantastic race cars that they build at Aston Martin Racing, commented Kevin Buckler, Chief Executive Officer at TRG-AMR. This has been quite a journey together since starting from scratch three years ago and we are both pleased and proud to be working together. Everyone has done a superb job to get us here and once again we want to show that TRG-AMR is the place to be!

Petit Le Mans starts at 11.00 EDT on Saturday 3 October. Fans in the USA can watch on Fox Sports 2 from 11.00 EDT and fans in the UK can watch live on Motors TV from 16.00 BST.

17 September 2015, Gaydon:  Aston Martin Racing returns to the USA this weekend for the fifth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the Six Hours of the Circuit of the Americas, and brings in Benny Simonsen (DN) and welcomes back Jonny Adam (GB).

Aston Martin Racing runs five Aston Martin Vantage GTEs in the WEC and, this weekend, cars #95, #96 and #98 will continue to carry the iconic Gulf livery while the #99 returns to the same Valero livery that it ran at Silverstone at the start of the year. The red and yellow Hanergy livery will be transferred onto the #97 Vantage GTE and all cars welcome new sponsor Spirent Communications to the team.
“We know we have a huge challenge ahead of us this weekend for all five of our cars,” continued Gaw. “We struggled at Nürburgring, as a result of the BoP changes, but our team always faces challenges with positivity and determination so we can get the best result possible.”

TRG-Aston Martin Racing Delivers: Another Win and Podium to Finish the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge Season

TRG-Aston Martin Racing Delivers: Another Win and Podium to Finish the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge Season

MONTEREY, CA, September 14, 2015 - Once again, TRG-Aston Martin Racing delivers with a solid win in GTS class and a podium result in GTA class to finish the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge season. After scoring a race win and podium finish at the Sonoma Grand Prix just two weeks ago, the team repeats the performance again at the Grand Prix of Monterey to close out the PWC season.
In the GT race, Christina Nielsen qualified and started fourth in the GTA class in the #7 Royal Purple/Orion/LaSalle Solutions/Passtime V12 Vantage. Christina battled hard through the first half of the race to hold off attacks from rivals and made an aggressive pass on the front-running Audi R8 to move up from P4 to P3. She charged forward from there avoiding the off track mistakes that plagued several of her competitors, to finish on the podium in P3.
In the GTS race, Kris Wilson qualified in the second position in the #07 Royal Purple/Orion/LaSalle Solutions/Passtime V8 Vantage. TRG-AMR team driver Jeff Huber in the #06 Stand Up 2 Cancer V8 Vantage also delivered a strong P14 qualifying effort in a field of 27 cars. At the drop of the green and heading into turn 2, Kris made a perfect outside pass on the pole sitting Porsche and never looked back as he drove a flawless race to the checkered flag to win his 5th GTS class race of the season -- the most of any driver in class during the 2015 season. Jeff Huber had a great start and narrowly avoided an incident that took out two competitors at the green flag; and battled his way through the pack but suffered a small spin late in the race as he was trying to navigate around slower traffic. Jeff managed to avoid any damage to his V8 Vantage and charged forward in the closing laps to finish P16 and turned the seventh fastest race lap of all 27 entries.
“Winning my first GTA race two weeks ago was awesome and I wanted to finish the season with another strong finish in Monterey,” said Christina Nielsen, TRG-AMR driver. “Our qualifying was really good, but I had my work cut out for me to move up from P4 as the Mercedes SLS AMG cars had significant pace all weekend. I tried to drive smart and avoid mistakes while some of the other GTA class competitors went off track. I managed to finish on the podium and in the absence of a class win -- I’ll take it.”
“Last week I told everyone that while a second place GTS finish at the Sonoma Grand Prix was nice, I really wanted to win here at Laguna Seca,” said Kris Wilson, TRG-AMR Driver. “The team provided me with another well prepared car and we did it. Not only did we deliver a strong qualifying effort, but in the race I was able to jump out to an early lead and hang on for the rest of the way to the checkered flag with the second and third place guys right on my bumper. This Aston Martin is just so solid and we look forward to welcoming several new teams for next year and helping them to make a run at the championship. TRG and the Aston Martin are definitely the magic combo if you want to win.”

“I came into this race very focused after delivering a solid performance at the Sonoma Grand Prix two weeks ago and was hoping to deliver a Top 10 finishing result,” said Jeff Huber, TRG-AMR driver. “While my late race spin was unfortunate, I was able to recover quickly and still pass four cars to regain valuable positions. Well done to the team.”
“We are really proud of what we have accomplished this season in Pirelli World Challenge and with our entire Aston Martin Racing program,” said Kevin Buckler, Chief Executive Officer at TRG-AMR. “We set the high mark with five wins in the GTS class this season to lead all other teams and we delivered our first win in the GTA class. We have seen growing interest in our race programs in the GT and GTS class with the strong performances of both the GT4 and the GT3. We’ve proven that TRG and Aston Martin are a winning combination both on and off the track. With the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge season now completed, we must shift our focus to the two remaining races in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship where we are trying to make history in winning the first North American GT Championship for our professional driver Christina Nielsen, for the TRG-AMR team and for Aston Martin.”

Joining Kris will be Jeff Huber, racing the #06 Stand Up 2 Cancer V8 Vantage in GTS class where he is looking to deliver another strong performance after his great run at Sonoma.
TRG-AMR pulls into Monterey with a 20-year history of success at this track and with multiple podium finishes and its first GTA class win this year. Laguna Seca Raceway is an epic setting and perfect venue to showcase not only the team’s Aston Martin Vantage race cars and drivers, but also provide corporations with an fantastic environment for business networking and building relationships.
“After being so close all season, the feeling of winning my first GTA race two weeks ago was amazing,” said Christina Nielsen, TRG-AMR driver. “I want to work really hard for the team this weekend in Monterey to deliver a strong performance in our last race.”
“I’m proud of what we accomplished with a 2nd place finish in the Sonoma Grand Prix, but I really want to occupy the top step of the podium at Laguna Seca,” said Kris Wilson, TRG-AMR Driver. “My #07 V8 Vantage should be strong in the GTS class and I look forward to putting an exclamation point on what has been a great season for the team, Aston Martin, and our sponsors/partners.”

“I’m looking forward to jumping back in my V8 Vantage GTS race car after driving an aggressive, clean race at the Sonoma Grand Prix and gaining six positions at the finish,” said Jeff Huber, TRG-AMR driver. “While I haven't yet raced a full PWC season, I’m hopeful I'll battle my way into a Top 10 finish at Laguna Seca.”
“We are really proud of what we have accomplished this season in Pirelli World Challenge and with our Aston Martin Racing program” said Kevin Buckler, Chief Executive Officer at TRG-AMR. “We are entering the last race with five wins and multiple podiums this season alone and these Aston Martin racecars have delivered. As our drivers have stated, we want to end the 2015 PWC season with strong results. Laguna Seca is one of our home tracks and we’ll have many VIP guests and corporate partners in attendance at both our paddock and luxury suite accommodations. We have not only delivered race cars that our professional drivers have used to win races, but we have also been able to welcome several amateur drivers wanting to step up to sportscar racing in an Aston Martin Vantage. While our professional program is important, our amateur program and driver development is also key for us and we are making it possible for very good race drivers to join a winning team and continue their development progression both on and off the track and take it to the next level. We could not be more proud to be representing and racing the Aston Martin GT cars.”

Aston Martin’s design director turns racer for Revival – exclusive interview

‘All car designers should have a go at racing,’ says Marek Reichman, gazing across the Goodwood pit lane towards the Aston Martin DB4 GT that he will race in the RAC TT Celebration at Revival.

Marek is well qualified to comment. As Aston’s chief creative officer and design director he swaps designer suit for race suit as often as he can. He is usually in an Aston (as at the Silverstone 24-hour and Le Mans this year) but also his own 1951 Emeryson-JAP F3 car that he has been campaigning, off and on, in historic racing since 1999 – and which will be lining up on the grid in the Earl of March Trophy race on Sunday morning.

‘Racing makes you understand what a car is for,’ Marek tells us. ‘It is fundamental to the development of the road car. Design balance is important in a car but through racing you get to understand the literal balance, the seat of the pants feel. We have all these electronic systems now but the fundamentals should still be there.

‘For Aston Martin driving must always be fun and driver engagement must always be there, even when we get to the point of autonomous driving. Maybe we will have an autonomous drift button…’

To hear a designer talk about drifting, braking points and heel-and-toeing, as Marek does, rather than just mood boards and DLOs (daylight openings, aka windows, doh! – ed) is refreshing indeed. And encouraging since this is the bloke half way through redesigning the entire current Aston Martin range (plus adding a lot of new ones besides).

He has already achieved a lot. A product of the vehicle design course at London’s Royal College of Art, like so many of the world’s top car designers, Marek already has on his design CV the Rolls-Royce Phantom, Lincoln MkX and Range Rover MkIII (the 2003 BMW-developed one), as well as Astons like the Rapide, Vanquish, One-77 and Vulcan. As design boss, he oversees everything that comes out of Aston’s Gaydon studio, including in the recent past the luxury Taraf, Vantage GT12 and DBX crossover concept.

Plenty to talk to him about then…

What is it about historic F3 cars you like?
For me these cars represent the basic foundations of motor racing. They are incredibly uncomplicated but also incredibly exciting. I like the fact that you need someone to push start you [it’s normally his brother], and that you have to lean into corners to keep the car stable. I weigh 98kg and the car is well under 300kg so I do plenty of leaning. I also love that my Emeryson was one of the first 500s to race at Goodwood – I have lots of pictures of it here – and for me as a designer that feeling of heritage is really important.

Car designers don’t usually race but you are up against another in the Earl of March Trophy
David (Woodhouse, design director at Lincoln in the US) will be racing his F3 car (the 1955 Cooper-Norton Mk9 that Ivor Bueb won with at Goodwood in 1955). We are both passionate about these F3 cars, and motor racing and the history of cars. David and I were at college together, shared a house together, have worked together and are best friends, and now we race each other.

Sounds like it might be a grudge race. Who’s quicker?
The only thing I know is that when we raced each other at Revival a few years ago I passed him on the start line – he was stationary. We have argued about that ever since.

How do you approach your historic racing?
I let the car do the work. If you don’t upset it and can strike up a relationship with it, you will get more out of it. But while you are looking for braking points, double-declutching and heel-and-toeing you have to remember to have fun. That is the most important thing and it’s something you must get in a road car as well, whether it’s a journey to the shops or a trip to the south of France.

Any connections between the DB4 GT you are driving in the TT race and the new cars you are designing now?
Grace and elegance. There is something very serene about the DB4 GT, and also the DB5 – they are the spiritual parents (of new cars like next year’s DB11 – ed). There is also a feeling, a sound and response that the car gives you. It’s to do with intimacy between driver and car. Racing car or road car, it makes you smile.

You have had a busy racing year already
We came fifth in the Vantage GT4 car in the 24 hours of Silverstone (with GRR’s Andrew Frankel on the team, read more about that here) and at the Le Mans Festival [a race for just Aston Martins that supported the 24 hours] we climbed from 28th place to eighth which was fantastic.

    Aston Martin DB4 Marek Reichman
What would you like to do next? Have a go in the Vulcan?
I would love to. I haven’t driven it yet but with 850bhp and 1300kg it will be magical. I would also love to do the 24 hours of the Nurburgring. I got the bug at Silverstone and would just love to do the Green Hell next.

How important is ‘gentleman’ racing for the brand?
Aston Martin builds sports cars and it is important they are taken to the limits on racetracks. The ethos of Aston Martin from the beginning has been to compete. And endurance racing is part of our heritage. If you drive a car for 24 hours at g-max you find out a lot about its longevity.

You have been at Aston Martin 10 years now, what do the next 10 years hold?
I think the next 10 years will be even more exciting. I am blown away by the acceptance of ideas and what Andy Palmer (Aston’s go-ahead new boss) has brought on board in terms of a vision for where Aston Martin should be.
    image: https://cdn.gwsrv.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Marek_reichman_Aston_Martin_DB4_09091520.jpg
    Aston Martin DB4 Marek Reichman
Do you know what all the new cars are going to look like?
I have got the next five years mapped out and next year when we launch our new car that will be the start of a new car launch every year. The DB9 replacement will be the most graceful and beautiful car we do. The DBX (hybrid crossover – ed) will be in production in 2019. It will be a true Aston Martin with true Aston Martin beauty and soul.

Before all that we will see the DB10 in the new Bond movie Spectre
The premiere is on November 6. I have seen parts of the film, and been on set a few times, but my involvement was more creating the car. Sam Mendes [the film’s director] saw a sketch out of the corner of his eye when he came to the studio. Five months later we had the first prototype. We made just 10 of them.
    image: https://cdn.gwsrv.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Marek_reichman_Aston_Martin_DB4_09091529.jpg
    Aston Martin DB4 Marek Reichman
None of the DB10s will be for sale, but how will this model influence future Astons like the Vantage?
The DB10 was designed from the start as a Bond car [it is actually Marek’s second Bond car; he also did the DBS in Casino Royale]. But it does give a hint of what will come in the next generation of Aston’s sports car. That car will be much more predatory, more sports car like – great balance but a little menacing, like James Bond himself.

You drove down to Goodwood today in your company Vanquish, what else is in your garage at home?
A 996 Ducati, the Emeryson-JAP F3 car, a T56 Cooper, and a 1965 MGB roadster racecar. That’s it for now, but I need to grow the garage. Actually I need to get a garage. At the moment I am relying on my brother. What I really need is another four of him …

TRG-Aston Martin Delivers a 1-2 punch at Sonoma Grand Prix-Victory in GTA and One Beautiful Weekend in the Wine Country

SONOMA, CA, August 31, 2012 –TRG-Aston Martin Racing extends its winning ways by bringing six Aston Martin Vantage race cars to the Sonoma Grand Prix and delivering a win in the GTA class and 2nd place in GTS class in the Pirelli World Challenge series.
The team kicked off the Pirelli World Challenge weekend by hosting an exquisite Thursday evening private wine dinner for technology executives and a private equity firm at the team’s headquarters in Petaluma. The dinner, racing facility tour, and special wine tasting inside the Adobe Road Winery production facility and tasting room, provided attendees with a behind-the-scenes view into the world of sports car racing and corporate relationship building. The following evening, TRG-AMR hosted a party for over 100 Pirelli World Challenge team members and corporate VIPs.
On Saturday, it was all business as TRG-AMR fielded five V8 Vantage GT4 race cars in the GTS class and a single V12 Vantage GT3 in the GTA class. The team also hosted one of the largest VIP gatherings of the 2015 season, including private hospitality for partner LaSalle Solutions as well as groups from Silicon Valley Bank, Indycar sponsors and additional team guests and partners. Adding to the excitement all weekend was the stunning new lineup of current Aston Martin streetcar models on display courtesy of Los Gatos Luxury Cars and Aston Martin Walnut Creek.

The team started off Saturday morning with a solid GTS race with all five cars finishing and looking for even stronger performance for Sunday.
TRG-Aston Martin Racing delivered on Saturday afternoon as Christina Nielsen brought home her first 2015 season victory by fighting off a hard-charging Mercedes SLS AMG in the final laps to take first place in GTA class. It was one of Christina’s finest driving performances as she took the lead in her #7 Royal Purple Vantage and delivered the win. Sponsors and VIP guests were able to share in the celebration in victory lane as the champagne flowed and the media converged on the Christina and the team.
Following up Saturday’s winning performance, the team went back to work making critical setup changes to its V8 Vantage GT4 cars in preparation for Sunday’s GTS race. On Sunday, the team’s five GT4 race cars were engaged in fierce battles from the front back to mid-pack where cars were changing positions and managed to avoid an early race crash between one of the Ford Boss 302R cars and a Kia entry. Kris Wilson drove his #07 LaSalle Solutions V8 Vantage to the front of the field and battled for the lead with a pair of Camaros and ended up finishing 2nd in the GTS race, for TRG-Aston Martin Racing’s second podium finish of the weekend.
TRG-AMR team driver Derek DeBoer delivered another impressive finish bringing home a strong top 10 for the team and battling hard during the entire race. As usual, Derek was fast and smart and drove his car up through the field. He has done an amazing job with the team all year both on and off the track and is crafting a strong with the team for 2016.
Longtime TRG driver and friend, Peter Ludwig delivered an outstanding performance after literally just jumping in the Aston Martin Vantage for the first time on Friday. Peter was coming off of a big win in the previous Sunday’s F3 race and was able to show some tremendous experience and race craft. Even more importantly Peter spent an amazing week of quality time engaging in activities throughout Northern California with his 15-year-old son Petey.
TRG-AMR Driver and partner Jeff Huber made his debut professional race this weekend and came away exactly what he set out to do delivering outstanding results and bringing home a solid top 15 and also some incredible lap times amongst his fellow competitors. With Jeff’s background, he approached this weekend with complete focus and executed on his plan, delivered the result and made the team proud.
Newcomer to the TRG-Aston Martin team was Jason Alexandridis (#75 Rebounderz of Rohnert Park). A most impressive performance from Jason, as it is his first professional race and he showed nerves of steel and composure after being taken out early in the race by a fellow competitor and then turning around and charging back through the field for a strong finish. Jason was joined by friends and family throughout the weekend and it ended up truly being a “family affair”.
“I am so happy to be able to stand on the top step of the podium after so many 2nd and 3rd place finishes this year,” said Christina Nielsen, TRG-AMR driver. “We had a huge audience of sponsors, VIPs and team guests attending and I wanted to show that I can fight for the win in Pirelli World Challenge series. I thought I had the skills and the car, but I just needed the race to come to me and it did. On Sunday, I was ready to deliver the team’s first back-to-back GTA win when I had to deal with a multi-car crash that cost us a few positions and resulted in a 5th place finish in our second race. I am looking forward to Laguna Seca in two weeks where I am confident I can deliver another winning performance.”
“After Christina delivered such a strong performance on Saturday, I really wanted to back that up by delivering a win on Sunday,” said Kris Wilson, TRG-AMR Driver. “The Camaros showed incredible pace but patience and smart driving allowed me to put my #07 LaSalle Solutions Vantage on the podium with a strong 2nd place result. I’m very happy for the LaSalle Solutions VIPs and all of our corporate guests that we were able to deliver a strong result.”
“I am so proud of our entire team this weekend from our race competition guys to our hospitality and marketing staff,” said Kevin Buckler, Chief Executive Officer at TRG-AMR. All six drivers did a fantastic job throughout all of the racing and at all of our events and as I have said many times, it makes it even more special to be doing it with your friends. It was also a very special moment to see Christina take her first win. We’ve come so far together and I was just personally really proud.”
“We set out to execute a very ambitious schedule over four days including executive networking dinners, fielding six race cars in two race classes, and we had some distinguished executives visit our paddock and hospitality operations to evaluate how they can become involved in what we are doing. We have always been about winning-- both on and off the track--- and we have always believed that the key to long-term success is demonstrating ROI for our sponsors and corporate partners as well as our drivers. This weekend afforded us the opportunity to connect investment banks, technology companies, entrepreneurs, auto dealership groups, financial services companies, and especially other drivers and teams wanting to join our program. We deliver a “full service” program to all of our drivers and teams and it is definitely attracting attention. Our sport has grown and this is the way the professional teams should be operating and offering these opportunities to their drivers to help with funding solutions. I can’t recall a time when there has been more interest in what we are doing. We have a busy September as we close out the Pirelli World Challenge and head into the Tudor United SportsCar Championship and we are 100% focused on winning a championship and expanding our corporate relationships. It’s a great time to be in sportscar racing and representing a brand like Aston Martin.”
Additionally, TRG-Aston Martin Racing and team owner Kevin Buckler, took a special moment after the race to recognize several of its Aston Martin Le Mans Festival drivers that were in attendance this weekend at Sonoma and awarded a beautiful trophy to each of the individual drivers. The trophy was done with a stunning black background and plaque and a special carbon fiber design that represented the actual 24 hours of Le Mans circuit.
